Buy NowThe least expensive home tool set we’ll be testing is made by Sunpey. A lot of tools within the Sunpey kit are out of position. All the tools are contained within a carrying case, and they claim it includes 281 pieces of high-quality tools.
It’s a pretty comprehensive kit, but it does not include clamps, locking pliers, scissors, a hacksaw, or a utility knife. The Sunpey tool set is made in China and weighs 10.5 lbs. Since most of the home tool kits don’t include a comprehensive set of wrenches, the adjustable wrench needs to be of good quality.
The Sunpey 8-inch adjustable wrench weighs almost 300 grams and has a pretty large jaw span of just over an inch. To test the performance of the adjustable wrenches, we used a highly accurate torque wrench calibration tool. The torque wrench tester keeps track of the peak torque.

We used a very soft coupling nut to avoid causing harm to the wrenches, replacing the coupling nuts between testing each of the wrenches. There’s a lot of slop with the Sunpey wrench, and it gave up early at just under 55 ft-lb of torque. Unfortunately, the soft coupling nut actually caused damage to the Sunpey wrench.
At a price of $60 is the GETUHAND home tool kit. It’s a 188-piece kit that comes in a large-mouth tool bag with 15 pockets. They claim that all their tools meet or exceed ANSI standards.
The GETUHAND tool kit is made in China and weighs 11.12 lbs. The 6-inch GETUHAND wrench is very small and light, at only 138.5 grams—less than half the weight of the Sunpey. It does have a pretty big mouth at 0.81 inches and has much better build quality than the Sunpey.
The wrench performed impressively, withstanding 77.74 ft-lb of torque, and held up quite a bit better than the Sunpey.
The $63 FastPro kit includes a 12-inch wide-mouth open storage bag. They claim that their pliers are constructed with forged steel and heat-treated for strength and durability. The socket and combination wrenches are made of chrome vanadium steel.
The FastPro kit is made in China, weighing 9.2 lbs. The 8-inch FastPro wrench weighs 263 grams, about the same as the GETUHAND wrench. It performed the best yet, at 88.64 ft-lb, and held up better than the Sunpey.
This $63 Eastvolt brand kit includes 28 pieces, and they claim their toolkit includes professional-grade tools. The Eastvolt tool kit is made in China and is the heaviest yet, at 12.9 lbs.
The 8-inch Eastvolt wrench weighs just over 270 grams and has a jaw spread of just over an inch. The build quality seems about the same as the FastPro, but the adjustable wrench performed the best yet, at just over 92 ft-lb, with no visible damage.
The ARTMAN TS238 Household Tool Set is priced at $89.9 and includes 238 pieces, offering a comprehensive solution for all your home repair needs. This tool set comes in a compact, blow-molded plastic case that is durable, waterproof, and corrosion-resistant, ensuring that all the tools are organized and easy to access.
The tools are constructed with durable materials to withstand regular use, and they feature non-slip grips for comfortable handling. The ARTMAN TS238 is not only ideal for basic home repairs but is also versatile enough for various mechanical tasks. Its compact and portable design allows you to carry the tool set wherever you need it, making it a convenient addition to any household.
At a price of $70 is the Pittsburgh brand, sold at Harbor Freight. About half the tools were out of place when the kit arrived. The toolkit includes 146 pieces, such as a 3/8-inch ratchet, drive sockets, 12 combination wrenches, 22 hex keys, and 81 miscellaneous tools.
The Pittsburgh kit weighs 13.7 lbs and features a 6-inch wrench weighing just over 278 grams. There is quite a bit of slop with the wrench, and it failed early at only 63.3 ft-lb. Unfortunately, the thumb screw experienced catastrophic damage, ruining the wrench.
The Amazon Basics kit costs $70 and includes 173 pieces. A few tools were out of position, but it was better than the Pittsburgh kit. It includes eight combination wrenches, a 3/8-inch ratchet wrench, hex keys, pliers, and more.
The kit weighs 11.2 lbs but does not include an adjustable wrench.
At $90, the DEKOPRO kit includes 28 pieces, and most of the tools stayed in their proper locations. They claim the tools are forged from high-strength impact-grade chrome vanadium steel.
The DEKOPRO is made in China and weighs just over 14 lbs. The 8-inch wrench weighs about 277 grams, with a jaw span of 1.19 inches, the largest yet. However, there was quite a bit of slop, and it performed at 71.5 ft-lb, about 20 ft-lb less than the Eastvolt, with some damage to the lower jaw.
Also priced at $90 is the Deco Pink Tool Set, which is made by Deco, just like the DEKOPRO. This kit has 238 pieces and even comes with a 12-volt cordless drill. The drill has a 1.5 amp-hour rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
The Deco Pink weighs 12 grams less than the DEKOPRO and has a smaller jaw opening of 1.04 inches. It performed at 86.38 ft-lb, good enough to move into third place behind the FastPro, with only a small amount of damage to the lower jaw.
The Craftsman kit costs $112, and only two tools were out of position upon arrival. The kit doesn’t have nearly as many tools as the other kits, but the Craftsman brand has a good reputation for quality.
It includes a nice blow-molded carrying case, and the tools come with a lifetime warranty. The Craftsman kit is made in China and weighs 12.58 lbs. The 6-inch adjustable wrench weighs 133 grams and has a jaw span of 0.94 inches.
However, there was quite a bit of slop, and the wrench gave up early at 56.3 ft-lb, though there was no visible damage.
At $129 is the Cobalt homeowners tool set. It includes 268 pieces, offering both metric and SAE shallow sockets, as well as a 3/8-inch drive ratchet.
The kit weighs just under 13 lbs, and the 6-inch Cobalt wrench is the lightest in the lineup, at just over 130 grams. It has the smallest jaw opening of 0.82 inches, and quite a bit of slop. It failed at 52.65 ft-lb, about 25 ft-lb less than the GETUHAND wrench, but there was no visible damage.
The Eastvolt came out on top with a wrench performance of 92 ft-lb, followed by the FastPro at 88.64 ft-lb and the Deco Pink at 86.38 ft-lb. All of the tool sets came with sockets.
The Sunpay socket is pretty light at under 21 grams, but unfortunately, the socket experienced a blowout at 136.34 ft-lb. The FastPro, Pittsburgh, Amazon Basics, DEKORPO, Craftsman, and Cobalt sockets all performed well, handling over 200 ft-lb of torque.
If you’re buying a home tool kit, hammer quality is definitely a factor to consider. We compared hammer performance for vibration and wear from impacting nails. None of the hammers were soft enough to experience damage from nails, though some transferred a lot of vibration.
The Craftsman hammer came out on top, with the Cobalt finishing a close second and Pittsburgh a distant third. In terms of utility knives, the GETUHAND utility blade had the sharpest score at 95, followed by Cobalt at 105, and Eastvolt at 135.
The DEKOPRO struggled, scoring 225. The Deco Pink outperformed the DEKOPRO with a score of 170, and the Craftsman performed well at 145, sharper than average. Overall, if you’re looking for a light-duty home toolkit for occasional use, the FastPro is hard to beat for a price of around $60.
It has a good tool selection, and while a tool bag is less organized than a blow-molded case, the benefit is that you can toss in some extra tools to round out the kit. The Craftsman and Cobalt kits are also great options, but you may want to supplement those kits with a few extra tools.
Having a home tool kit under the kitchen sink is very handy, and today we caused a lot of damage to a lot of kits.
