Understanding Weld Mesh Size and Thickness
Mesh Size: The mesh size refers to the distance between two adjacent wires, also known as the aperture size. It is usually measured in millimeters (mm) or inches.
Wire Thickness (Gauge): The wire thickness, also known as the gauge, determines the strength of the mesh. Thicker wires offer greater durability and rigidity.
Best Weld Mesh Sizes and Thicknesses for Different Applications
1. Construction and Concrete Reinforcement
- Recommended Mesh Size: 50mm x 50mm to 150mm x 150mm

I need some “mesh” to make a BBQ grille, needs to be about 300mm square
I want something with around 10 to 15 mm hole size with 5mm wire, (all sizes are approximate but can’t be bigger) ideally stainless steel, but not a deal breaker
What do I need to search for as my Google fu isn’t working, I just keep getting light weight SS mesh which is very flimsy for my application
Help muchly appreciated, a suggested supplier will be even better

Perforated sheet might do what you want?
Stainless Steel Perforated Sheet is a product that is made from Stainless Steel Sheet that has been fed through a machine that punches out round holes (or other designs). These holes can be straight rows or staggered to increase the amount of the openings.

ive searched for it before as i was looking for a bbq grill long enough to cook the food upon
bbq grill would be the term your looking for if you want the bar type grill
for me to get the size of grill i wanted it was easier to buy the whole unit than just to buy the grills
And we're off.

"Stainless grill rack" on amazon, most are not a mesh though, in that the wires are all horizontal leaving slots.
Buy a load of 5mm stainless wire and some 2mm stainless electrodes?

5mm wire is heavy duty I have made various sized bbq's using 20x20 x 3mm welded mesh with no issues, your 300mmx 300mm requirement should suit the use of this stuff,
Intelligent search from Bing makes it easier to quickly find what you’re looking for and rewards you.
But if your stuck on needing 5mm good luck.

'Stainless weld mesh' finds a few examples of the heavier type.
I could not find anything with 5mm wires, biggest was 3mm (wire size is also written in 'gauge' - 3mm is about 10 gauge; 5mm would be about 4 gauge)
Brundles sell it, so that would give you a cross section of what is easily available.
Out of the box suggestion: the combination of relatively large wire diameter and relatively close spacing is more like a screen used in a soil-screening machine so that might be a place to look. Maybe 8ob would know what a common screen mesh size is.

That’s the one, weld mesh throws up more options, but I don’t want the full sheet….

Parmster, as its only 300mm square you may as well buy some 5mm stainless rod and makes some, it would only need tack welding with some stainless rods.
